AI-HealthLab
Research Group on AI for Personalized Healthcare & Medical Imaging
Welcome to the AI-HealthLab research group website
We are an interdisciplinary research group at the University of Messina, dedicated to developing advanced artificial intelligence solutions to tackle major health challenges.
Our goal is to design novel AI architectures for:
- Early diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s.
- Intelligent support in surgery and clinical decision-making.
- Sensor-based monitoring for personalized patient care.
- Data quality control and optimization in clinical trials.
We are actively involved in international research projects, with results published in high-impact journals and leading international conferences.
Our environment is driven by an inclusive, innovative, and multidisciplinary vision, with a strong commitment to translating AI technologies from research into clinical practice.
Our Vision
Our research vision is to foster technological innovation in artificial intelligence to concretely improve health and quality of life, combining scientific excellence, multidisciplinarity, and social impact in medical and clinical applications.
NEWS
Big Win for AI-HealthLab: €1.3M Grant to Expand Team and Advance our Research
We are incredibly proud to announce that our project, "AI-Powered Digital Twins for Neurodegeneration Research: Advancing Disease Progression Modeling," has been selected for funding under the highly competitive FIS3 Consolidator Grant. This achievement secures €1,293,120 in funding for the University of Messina, marking a pivotal moment for our research group.
The FIS3 (Fondo Italiano per la Scienza) 2024-25 call represents one of Italy's most selective research funding opportunities. With around 6,000 submissions and only about 300 funded projects, the success rate is roughly 5%—even lower than many ERC programs.
With these new resources, AI-HealthLab is now open to new collaborations and will soon be opening positions for researchers passionate about AI and healthcare. We look forward to making a lasting impact on the field.
Our Research
Disease Progression Modelling
Development of AI-based models for brain disease progression, applied to the longitudinal and personalized analysis of medical images.
