Le strategie di mitigazione richiedono la <strong>comprensione e la quantificazione delle fonti<\/strong>, <strong>dei percorsi e del destino delle plastiche marine<\/strong>.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Sebbene la diffusione delle plastiche in alto mare sia stata ampiamente analizzata, le <strong>dinamiche nella surf e nella swash zone<\/strong> sono ancora in una fase iniziale e si sa poco su come le particelle di plastica vengano trasportate dalle onde verso la riva e su come si distribuiscano sulle spiagge emerse e sommerse. Sono necessari ulteriori studi per migliorare le conoscenze sulla distribuzione delle plastiche lungo la colonna d&#8217;acqua, sui fenomeni di degradazione e sui processi di <strong>beaching<\/strong> e <strong>washing off<\/strong> sotto l&#8217;azione di <strong>onde regolari e irregolari<\/strong> combinate con le correnti.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Nell&#8217;ambito del progetto PLATONE sono stati indagati i processi fisici che portano i rifiuti antropici ad accumularsi sulla spiaggia emersa e a disperdersi su quella sommersa. La <strong>modellazione fisica e numerica<\/strong>, condotta sotto una variet\u00e0 di condizioni di onde e correnti, \u00e8 stata combinata e integrata per indagare i processi che possono determinare lo spiaggiamento e il recupero del materiale di scarto sulla spiaggia emersa. E\u2019 o \u00e8 stata coordinatore scientifico dei progetti europei\u00a0 EU TA HY+ WINGS (2018), INTERREG Italia- Malta 2020-27 MAESTRI, dei progetti nazionali PRIN2022 PLATONE (2024-2026), BAC RAISE Passport (2025), nonch\u00e9 di numerose convenzioni con enti pubblici e privati. Il 19 luglio 2011 si \u00e8 laureato in Ingegneria per l\u2019Ambiente e il Territorio presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Catania con votazione di 110\/110 e lode. Nel mese di gennaio 2016 ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Ingegneria delle Infrastrutture Idrauliche, Sanitarie-Ambientali e dei Trasporti (XXVIII Ciclo) presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Catania, discutendo la tesi \u201cOttimizzazione di dighe marittime a gettata per l&#8217;estrazione di energia dal moto ondoso\u201d. Da marzo 2023 \u00e8 Ricercatore a tempo determinato per il Settore Scientifico-Disciplinare ICAR\/01 presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Messina. Svolge attivit\u00e0 didattica in vari corsi ed \u00e8 o \u00e8 stato responsabile di progetti di ricerca e attivit\u00e0 di consulenza.<\/p><p data-start=\"2192\" data-end=\"2554\">L\u2019attivit\u00e0 di ricerca \u00e8 principalmente rivolta allo studio dell\u2019idrodinamica costiera, dei dispositivi per la produzione di energia dal moto ondoso, della previsione del moto ondoso e della dispersione in mare di inquinanti. A partire da gennaio 2024 ha svolto un anno di attivit\u00e0 di ricerca nell\u2019ambito del progetto PLATONE, occupandosi principalmente delle attivit\u00e0 sperimentali di laboratorio. Da dicembre 2024 \u00e8 dottoranda in Ingegneria presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Messina. Successivamente ha completato un Master di II livello della durata di un anno presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Le Mans (Francia), focalizzato sull\u2019elaborazione dei dati oceanografici e sull\u2019analisi integrata degli ecosistemi costieri e della loro resilienza.<br \/>Durante il percorso formativo ha sviluppato competenze nel supporto alla progettazione e ha contribuito ad attivit\u00e0 di capacity building volte a promuovere soluzioni basate sulle comunit\u00e0 per la resilienza ecologica e socio-economica a lungo termine. Dal 2025 svolge attivit\u00e0 di Assegnista di Ricerca nell\u2019ambito del progetto PLATONE, partecipando attivamente a esperimenti di laboratorio finalizzati allo studio del trasporto dei rifiuti plastici indotto dal moto ondoso. Ha una vasta esperienza nel coordinamento di progetti di ricerca internazionali e nazionali. Recentemente ha focalizzato la sua ricerca sulla valutazione della vulnerabilit\u00e0 di asset strategici (ad es. porti, sistemi arginali, patrimonio culturale, capitale naturale) agli eventi estremi indotti dalle condizioni meteorologiche. Dopo un periodo di attivit\u00e0 professionale presso imprese e studi di progettazione, dal 2021 al 2024 ha svolto un dottorato di ricerca presso la stessa Universit\u00e0, conducendo una ricerca sperimentale sulla dinamica dei rifiuti plastici non galleggianti in ambiente costiero. Durante il dottorato ha trascorso un periodo di ricerca presso i laboratori della Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Ha conseguito presso il medesimo ateneo la laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Civile delle Acque e dei Trasporti (Curriculum Acque) discutendo la tesi dal titolo \u201cImpatto della variabilit\u00e0 delle forzanti del moto ondoso sul dimensionamento strutturale del muro paraonde: il caso della diga foranea del Porto di Catania\u201d. Dal 2024 svolge attivit\u00e0 di ricerca presso l\u2019INGV, nel progetto Platone, occupandosi <br \/>della validazione di un modello numerico per il trasporto di plastiche in ambiente costiero <br \/>basato sul metodo Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), implementato tramite <br \/>GPUSPH. In particolare:\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"366\"><strong data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"7\">O1)<\/strong> <strong>Classificare<\/strong> i materiali di rifiuto che possono trovarsi sulle spiagge emerse o sommerse sulla base dell\u2019origine e delle propriet\u00e0 fisiche e bio-chimiche, utilizzando sia dati esistenti sia nuovi dati acquisiti tramite indagini di campo strategiche (distinguendo tra galleggianti\/non galleggianti; antropici\/non antropici; biodegradabili\/non biodegradabili).<\/p><p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"366\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"848\"><strong data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"375\">O2)<\/strong> <strong>Modellare<\/strong> i processi che possono determinare la dispersione dei materiali di rifiuto sulla spiaggia emersa o lungo la spiaggia sommersa, con particolare attenzione ai fenomeni di spiaggiamento e di dilavamento verso il mare.\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"848\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"850\" data-end=\"1044\"><strong data-start=\"850\" data-end=\"857\">O3)<\/strong> <strong>Identificare<\/strong> i percorsi preferenziali sia sulla spiaggia emersa sia nell\u2019area marina costiera (zona di battigia e zona di frangimento) dove i materiali di rifiuto tendono ad accumularsi.<\/p><p data-start=\"850\" data-end=\"1044\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1147\"><strong data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1053\">O4)<\/strong> <strong>Proporre<\/strong> soluzioni e strategie di mitigazione per l\u2019intrappolamento dei materiali di rifiuto.<\/p><p data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1147\">\u00a0<\/p><p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1344\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><strong data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1156\">O5)<\/strong> <strong>Diffondere<\/strong> i risultati del progetto per sensibilizzare l\u2019opinione pubblica e creare una rete con altri progetti finanziati su temi correlati.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e9737cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e9737cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Ricerca condotta<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8514dfa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8514dfa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>L\u2019attivit\u00e0 \u00e8 stata condotta <strong>sperimentalmente<\/strong>, all\u2019interno di un canale ondogeno, investigando i processi fisici di innesco del movimento attraverso l\u2019identificazione delle condizioni di <strong>moto incipiente<\/strong>, l\u2019individuazione delle condizioni di <strong>trasporto<\/strong> su fondali con diversa scabrezza sia orizzontali che inclinati, la determinazione della <strong>velocit\u00e0 di sedimentazione o di risalita<\/strong> in presenza o assenza di onde. In parallelo, sono state condotte <strong>simulazioni numeriche<\/strong> mediante due diversi approcci, uno <strong>lagrangiano<\/strong>, rivolto all\u2019identificazione degli <strong>hotspots<\/strong> delle plastiche all\u2019interno di un dominio individuato come caso studio (la baia di Milazzo), l\u2019altro mediante tecniche <strong>GPU-SPH<\/strong>, un software <strong>CFD open-source<\/strong> in grado di identificare particelle plastiche e modellare il loro trasporto in ambienti marino-costieri, mediante cui si \u00e8 tentato di riprodurre i risultati sperimentali.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8c8ca7e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8c8ca7e\" data-element_type=\"widget\"
