MARK ADRIAN GAMBITO
Mark Adrian GAMBITO is a PhD student in Artificial Intelligence for Society based at the University of Pisa and working at the University of Messina.
He obtained his master’s degree in Engineering and Computer Science (L-8) in 2023 at the University of Messina.
Since 2025, he has been a visiting PhD student at Western Sydney University, Australia.
From 2021 to 2022, he was a scholarship holder for the project “Rifunzionalizzazione del Contemporaneo” (Re-functionalization of the Contemporary), with the task of analyzing, designing, and implementing an Augmented Reality-based system that interacts with the environment through the use of edge technology, with the aim of optimizing and improving the sensory experience of users in museum/cultural contexts.
He was a research fellow from 2022 to 2023 for the “InstradaMe” project, with the task of analyzing, designing, and implementing a Virtual Reality driving system aimed at raising awareness and preventing road accidents.
His current research agenda focuses primarily on Hierarchical Federated Learning techniques, a Machine Learning approach distributed across different infrastructure levels in the context of natural disaster management. Specifically, he investigates optimization strategies that aim to improve the performance and energy efficiency of a decentralized system consisting of edge devices with limited computational resources.
