The Department of Economics is located in the central campus of the University of Messina, a few minutes’ walk from Piazza Cairoli (city centre) and the main shopping streets.

Messina

Messina is the gateway to Sicily, overlooking the Strait where the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas meet. The city blends a long maritime and trading history with a vibrant contemporary life, framed by the hills and the Mediterranean light. How to reach Messina

By plane

Catania “Fontanarossa” International Airport (CTA)

From the airport you can reach Messina by:

  • Direct bus (SAIS Autolinee) to Messina Centrale railway station (about 1h 20’ for direct services). https://www.saisautolinee.it/

  • Train: local bus or shuttle from the airport to Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa railway stop, then Trenitalia train to Messina Centrale https://www.trenitalia.com/it.html 

Reggio Calabria Airport (REG) Tito Minniti 

  • ATAM bus from the airport to the Port of Reggio Calabria.

  • From the port, take a high-speed hydrofoil (e.g. Liberty Lines) to Messina (arrival at the port of Messina, close to the city centre).

  • Alternatively, taxis / Uber are usually available from the airport to the port.

From the port of Messina, the city centre and the Department of Economics can be reached in a few minutes on foot or by public transport (bus).

By train

Messina is served by Messina Centrale railway station, with regional and long-distance trains from:

  • Catania, Palermo, Reggio Calabria and other main cities (Trenitalia).

From Messina Centrale station you can reach the Department:

  • On foot: about 10 minutes’ walk towards the city centre
