The celebration begins in the temple, where the penitents receive from the priest the cavadee (ritual container with consecrated water) which they carry in procession to the place of the ritual, where they are skewered with the vel, a small metal spear that pierces the penitents\u2019 tongue and cheeks. The landlady, particularly devoted to the goddess Durga, celebrates the ritual together with her friends. Before celebrating the offerings to Durga, the women, the protagonists of the celebration, prepare the food and set up the space. The presence of the divinity manifests itself through repeated states of trance into which some of those present fall. The <em>kovil<\/em> is set up in a special way for this nocturnal celebration: around the large oil lamp decorated at the base with Rangoli designs, young and mature women dance together the <em>kummi<\/em> dances for most of the night, accompanied by music. Their devotional experiences, their relationship with <em>Santuzza<\/em> and with her sanctuary on Monte Pellegrino intersect with the images of the local festival of Santa Rosalia and with the Ganpati celebration (both festivals held in September 2021). The film pays particular attention to the theme of the miracle, with a moving testimony relating to Covid 19.
