Tranchida, Associate in Food Chemistry at the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences, received the &#8220;GC\u00d7GC Lifetime Achievement Award&#8221; during the congress &#8220;43rd International Symposium on Capillary Chromatography &amp; the 16th\u00a0GC\u00d7GC Symposium\u201d recently held in Fort Worth (Texas, USA), from 12 to 17 May. This award is presented annually to scientists of recognized expertise in the field of comprehensive multidimensional gas chromatography (GC\u00d7GC), who has carried out pioneering research in this branch of instrumental analytical chemistry. Furthermore, Prof. Tranchida was the first ever to receive both the &#8220;GC\u00d7GC Lifetime Achievement Award&#8221; and the &#8220;John Phillips Award&#8221;, the latter received in 2012 (at the &#8220;36th\u00a0International Symposium on Capillary Chromatography &amp; the 9th\u00a0GC\u00d7GC Symposium&#8221;). The \u201cJohn Phillips Award\u201d, named in honour of the inventor of \u201ccomprehensive\u201d multidimensional gas chromatography, is presented annually to emerging researchers who have achieved outstanding results in GC\u00d7GC analyses. Comprehensive multidimensional gas chromatography is currently considered the most powerful analytical technique for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of volatile compounds contained in complex samples.<br \/>Prof. Tranchida has been working in the research group of Prof. Luigi Mondello since 2002 when he began attending the PhD course in Chemistry and Food Safety.
