The SIE2023 meeting will take place in Noto (SR) from September 6th to September 8th, 2023, at the headquarters of C.U.M.O. (Consorzio Universitario del Mediterraneo Orientale, i.e. Eastern Mediterranean University Consortium).
The C.U.M.O. headquarters is located in the center of the city of Noto, not far from the St. Nicolò Cathedral.

How to reach Noto by train.
To reach Noto by train, you first need to reach the Siracusa train station.
The Noto train station is located on the Caltanissetta Xirbi-Gela-Siracusa route. The travel time to and from Siracusa is around 30-40 minutes, depending on the chosen train.
The schedules for the Noto-Siracusa connections can be found on the timetable board at the Noto station or by consulting the Trenitalia website.
The Noto train station is just over a kilometer away from the Cathedral (a 15-minute walk on foot).

How to reach Noto by plane
The closest airports to Noto are Catania (CTA) and Comiso (CIY).
Catania Airport
Catania Airport is located 85 kilometers from Noto.
Once you arrive at Catania Airport, there are multiple options to reach Noto:
Rent a car.
Major car rental companies operate in Catania. The car rental parking is located in front of the airport terminal.
Take a train directly from the airport
Catania Airport train station is 600 meters from the airport terminal and is connected by a shuttle service every 10 minutes. From Catania Airport station, you can reach Noto station with a transfer at Siracusa. Depending on connections, the travel time ranges from 2 to 3 hours approximately. Take the bus to Noto at the airport exit.
At least two companies offer bus connections from Catania Airport to Noto and vice versa. In both cases, the travel time is approximately one and a half hours. The schedules can be found on the AST company’s website and the Interbus company’s website.
Comiso Airport
Comiso Airport is located 72 kilometers from Noto.
Once you arrive at Comiso Airport, the best option to reach Noto is to rent a car. The car rental parking is located near the airport.
Other alternatives involve excessive costs (approximately 120 euros for a taxi) or excessive travel times (infrequent bus services with travel times close to 3 hours).

Accomodation in Noto
The city of Noto is also known as “the capital of Baroque.” In 2002, its historic center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. The website of the Noto Municipality provides useful information for visitors.
Due to its structure and location, the center of Noto does not have large-scale hotel facilities. However, there are numerous accommodation options available in different types of establishments with varying capacities, all immersed in the beauty of the historic center.
In addition to the center of Noto, it is possible to stay in the district of Lido di Noto, which offers larger hotel facilities located near the sea.
Transportation from Noto Lido to the center of Noto is provided by a shuttle service.

If necessary, public transportation can be complemented with a dedicated shuttle service for participants of SIE2023 following the same route as the regular shuttle service.
Regardless of the chosen accommodation, it is advisable to make reservations well in advance, as the period in which the SIE2023 meeting will take place is still in the peak tourist season, and the risk of not finding accommodation should not be overlooked.
