The course Metropolitan Systems, the Urban–Rural Nexus and Water Diplomacy, organized by the Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with universities and international institutions, explores the challenges of metropolitan governance in rapidly urbanizing regions, with particular attention to the African and Mediterranean contexts. Through a mutual learning approach involving academics, policymakers, and international organizations, the course examines the relationships between cities and rural areas, infrastructure, energy systems, and water management. The ultimate goal is to strengthen metropolitan governance and promote more integrated and resilient models of territorial development.
