Professor Carlo Migliardo from the University of Messina presented the paper “The Mafia’s Economic Grip: Firm Efficiency and a Composite Indicator of Organized Crime“ at the 10th Annual SEM (Society for Economic Measurement) Conference, held in Athens from July 10 to 12, 2025. SEM is a highly prestigious international society dedicated to advancing research in economic measurement through cutting-edge methods from economic theory, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, and experimental economics. Over the years, its conferences have attracted leading scholars worldwide and have been hosted by top institutions. The paper was presented during the parallel session Applied Microeconomics, receiving valuable feedback and much appreciation. The conference featured renowned international economists and econometricians, including Professors Subal Kumbakar, Luisa Lambertini, Jean-Marc Robin, Juan Rubio-Ramirez, and Lucio Sarno.
