Antonio Ferracane
Dr Antonio Ferracane is a Tenure-Track Researcher Analytical Chemistry, at the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences (ChiBioFarAm) of the University of Messina. In December 2022, he obtained his PhD degree in “Chemical Sciences” by discussing a thesis entitled “Development of green and innovative analytical methods for the general profiling of volatile compounds and the determination of phytosanitary residues in food and environmental samples” at the ChiBioFarAm Department of the University of Messina. During his PhD, he carried out a six-month research period at the “Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics-Vienna University of Technology”.
His research activity is focused on the development of chromatographic methods (GC, fast-GC, GC×GC, HPLC) mainly coupled with mass spectrometry, for the analysis of constituents and contaminants in complex matrices of different nature. Antonio also devotes part of his research activity to the development of miniaturized extraction methods through the reduction of organic solvents and the use of innovative micro-extraction systems.
To date, he has co-authored 22 scientific articles in indexed journals and more than 40 oral/poster presentations at national and international conferences.
In 2022, he received the “1st Accesit recognition-Innovative oral contribution by a young scientist” at the 2nd European Sample Preparation Conference. In September 2024, he received the “Silvio Sammartano: Best Doctoral Thesis” award from the Analytical Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society.
