Marina Russo

Prof. Dr. Marina Russo is an associate Professor of Food Chemistry at the University of Messina (Italy) since 2020. She received a degree in chemistry from the University of Messina in 2007 and a Ph.D. in Food chemistry and safety from the University of Messina in 2011. She was Assistant professor of Food Chemistry at the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome from 2016 to 2020. She worked for six months at Baller S.r.l. (essential oils production company) as quality control responsible. Prof. Russo teaches the course of Food Chemistry at the Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences Department of the University of Messina.

Prof. Russo is the author of more than 50 scientific papers, and she has been lecturer in national and international congresses and symposiums.

Her research interests include the study of the composition of citrus products (essential oils and juices) by chromatographic techniques; the study of components with possible biological activity in natural matrices (polyphenols, anthocyanins, coumarins); the study of phospholipids in food fats.

The researches are carried out using innovative instrumental analytical techniques. In particular, chromatographic techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC/MS), multidimensional techniques (heart-cutting and comprehensive), preparative liquid chromatography and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC/MS).

Moreover, her scientific activity includes book chapters. She is also guest editor for Foods journal on the occasion of the Special Issue: “Characterization of Bioactive Compounds in Foods and Plants Using Advanced Analytical Techniques”.

Prof. Russo has been member of the organizing committees of national and international meetings.
