Paola Donato

Paola Donato is a Full Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Biomedical, Dental, Morphological, and Functional Imaging Sciences of the University of Messina, Italy, where she teaches the course of Analytical Chemistry for the Degree Courses in Gastronomic Sciences. She received a degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 2000 and a Doctoral Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2004 from the University of Messina. From 2010 to 2014 she has been an Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, Italy.

She is member of the Evaluation Committee at the Department of Biomedical, Dental, Morphological and Functional Imaging Sciences Sciences and member of the Academic Board of the Doctorate Course in Chemical at the University of Messina.

Prof. Donato is Editor of Food Analytical Methods (Springer) and Frontiers in Chemistry, Section: Analytical Chemistry (Frontiers Media S.A.), member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Separation Science Plus (Wiley-VCH), Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (Springer), Separations (MDPI), and serves as a reviewer for specialized journals in the field of Analytical Chemistry and Food Chemistry.

Her research is mainly focussed on the development of prototype instrumentation and high resolution hyphenated and multidimensional “comprehensive” techniques, consisting of liquid and supercritical fluid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry detection (high resolution, ion mobility, triple quadrupole and hybrid instrumentation). Such techniques are applied to the study of natural complex matrices (phenols, carotenoids, lipids and proteins as constituents of biological samples and foodstuffs). Moreover she is expert of the coupling of  liquid and gas chromatography to solid-deposition Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, applied to the analysis of drugs of abuse in seized samples and biosamples.

She has co-authored 85 scientific publications and 228 conference presentations, and has been presenting author and invited lecturer in several scientific national and international conferences, schools, and seminars.
