On the occasion of the 9th Symposium on “comprehensive” two-dimensional gas chromatography, and the 36th Symposium on capillary chromatographic techniques, held jointly in Riva del Garda (TN), the “John Phillips Award 2012” was assigned to Prof. Peter Quinto Tranchida, associate professor in the Pharmacochemical Department. The professor. Peter Quinto Tranchida, since the beginning of his academic career, dedicated himself to gas chromatography techniques, focusing his attention on the development of innovative techniques such as “comprehensive” two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC). The inventor of this technique, in 1991, was Prof. John Phillips, who died prematurely in 1999. Since 2004, the “John Phillips Award” has been assigned every year to those who significantly contribute to the improvement and dissemination of this important technique for the analysis of volatile and semi-volatile molecules in complex samples. The professor. Tranchida carries out his scientific research activity in the laboratories of the Analytical-Food Sector, coordinated by Professor Luigi Mondello.[:en]Prof. Peter Q. Tranchida was awarded the “John Phillips Award 2012” at the 9th Comprehensive Two-Dimensional Gas Chromatography Symposium and the 36th International Symposium on Capillary Chromatography, held as a combined event in Riva del Garda (Italy). Prof. Tranchida is an associate professor at the “Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences”. Since the beginning of his career, Prof. Tranchida has devoted his attention to the development of innovative gas chromatography techniques, such as comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC). The inventor of this technique, introduced in 1991, was Prof. John Phillips, who passed away in 1999. Since 2004, the “John Phillips Award” is assigned to individuals who contribute significantly to the improvement and expansion of this important analytical approach. Prof. Tranchida performs his research activities in the labs of the Analytical Food Chemistry Division, directed by Prof. Luigi Mondello.
