Peter Quinto Tranchida, since the beginning of his academic career, dedicated himself to gas chromatography techniques, focusing his attention on the development of innovative techniques such as “comprehensive” two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC). The inventor of this technique, in 1991, was Prof. John Phillips, who died prematurely in 1999. Since 2004, the “John Phillips Award” has been assigned every year to those who significantly contribute to the improvement and dissemination of this important technique for the analysis of volatile and semi-volatile molecules in complex samples.
