NSF Student Travel Grant for IEEE SMARTCOMP 2026 (US-based Students ONLY)


The 12th IEEE Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP 2026), to be held in-person in Messina, Italy, from June 22 to June 25, 2026, is expected to offer NSF-sponsored student travel grants to support participation in SMARTCOMP and its co-located events, including workshops, panels, poster and demo sessions, and a Ph.D. forum.

Overview and Eligibility

Travel grants are intended for full-time students enrolled at colleges and universities in the United States. We welcome applications from students at institutions across the United States.

Acceptance of a paper is not required to be considered for a travel grant. Both student authors and non-author students are eligible to apply. Ph.D. students applying for a travel grant are strongly encouraged to also apply to the Ph.D. forum.

Students must submit an application via the Google Form link by May 6, 2026.

Application Requirements

To apply for NSF travel support, please upload the following documents:

  • Confirmation that you are a full-time student (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.)
  • A statement that you will attend the entire SMARTCOMP 2026 conference and co-located events
  • A brief summary of your research interests and accomplishments in smart computing
  • A description of how attending SMARTCOMP 2026 would benefit your research and academic goals
Two-page CV
  • A current two-page curriculum vitae
Letter of recommendation from your academic mentor
  • Confirmation of your full-time student status and good academic standing
  • Confirmation of your engagement in smart computing research and your potential for contributions
  • The benefits you would gain from attending the conference
  • Your commitment to attend the entire conference and associated events

Reimbursement Information

  • Reimbursable expenses include the advance registration fee (for student authors and non-authors), airfare, hotel accommodations, and local transportation
  • Expenses not eligible for reimbursement include regular or on-site registration, internet fees, and similar incidental costs
  • Reimbursements will be processed after the conference upon submission of the required receipts
  • The final reimbursement amount will depend on the total number of awardees and the available funding
